News Corp recently put together this video for ONE Palm Beach on the Gold Coast.
We had the role of shooting both the aerials and level perspective views for this project.
The aerials were shot on our mid-level inspire 1 drone over an afternoon/sunset and the following sunrise/morning. We were very happy with the emotive impact they had on the final piece.
The view perspectives we shot on our large drone with a sony A7R2 professional digital camera. These were shot primarily for print applications and as back plates for renders. But we were also happy with how they were incorporated into the video.
Shooting in first and last light is really the best way to make a scene epic.
We recently captured an epic sunrise shooting for a development in Palm Beach, Northern NSW.
We traveled from Brisbane to shoot the sunset, stay the night and shoot the sunrise as well. This gave us the opportunity to shoot during the best hours of the day.
We shot the clip below on our Inspire 1 drone, one of our mid-level products. We also offer the Inspire 2 and the Matrice 600 Professional. The Matrice is able to lift pretty much any camera of your choosing – making matching aerial and ground footage a pleasure.
Meet the latest member of the Aerial Advantage team. The DJI Matrice M600 Professional.
This newly released drone has triple-redundant GPS systems, ideal for operating in high ‘electronic noise’ environments. This also allows us to position the camera exactly where it is required and hold more accurately that any pre-existing system on the market.
It also has dual motor signal redundancy and can lose a motor in flight and still land safely.
It is powered by 6 individual flight packs. This allows it to safely land in the event of a catastrophic battery failure.
In short, this drone will allow us to lift the camera of your choice, up to a red or Arri mini and put it where you want it as safely as possible.
It also has a high-definition video downlink with SDI out – ideal for live broadcasts.

We recently were contracted by Hoyne. Property Marketing Specialists, to supply the raw marketing material for their latest project.
SunCentral Maroochydore – estimated to add an $4.4 billion dollars to the Sunshine Coast economy over the life of the project, is destined to be the new Maroochydore CBD.
Being built on the land of The Horton Park Golf Club, the 53 Hectare development was completely cleared by the time we came to shoot the drone backplate renders.
This made achieving low angle photography with the drone very straight forward – we did not have to worry about existing trees or buildings obstructing the drone, or having to be removed from the render back plates.
Operating on a cleared site also allowed us to capture multiple positions at dusk. Usually, because of the 7 – 10 minute window where the light ‘pops’, only one or two positions can be safely be shot.
While the drone team was shooting the low-level aerial photos, we simultaneously shot the helicopter render backplate photography. This resulted in matching light and colour across the set of photos.
The second component that Hoyne required, was high altitude video of the site. In order to capture the best possible footage, we came to the decision that the GSS 516 Gimbal mounted on a Jet Ranger would be the best option.
This provided ultra-stable footage that could easily be motion tracked, and have 3D models dropped into the footage.
For more examples of the finished renders head to the Hoyne Website where they have completed an overview of the project. We are looking forward to seeing the completed video CGI work and will share once it has been completed.

As of the 28th of September 2016 CASA is proposing to introduce new drone regulations that will make amendments to the existing regulations to make it easier to operate a smaller drone commercially within Australia. Although there has been widespread media coverage of the upcoming proposed regulations the finer details have been lacking and certainly need clarification in the marketspace, we have listed a few more details on the new regulations that we feel have been ignored in the general media and what it might mean to you as a someone wishing to contract an operator to undertake some drone work.
So what does this really mean to you the contractor?
If you hire somebody to do drone work for you and they only have the sub 2kg certification. You will not only be limited by where and when they can fly it but you will be limited to a much smaller camera with lower quality video and low megapixel still images with no lens options other than what the drone comes with. You may also engage a less experienced operator with limited experience no formal training and possibly no insurance.
Why hire a more experienced, certified and insured operator like us?
We have been CASA certified for over 4 years now and been in the aerial photography business for the last 10 years. We are not hobbyists, we are professional photographers and cinematographers with wide industry experience and specialise in Aerial Photography and cinematography wether it be from drone or manned helicopter. Although we sometimes use smaller craft below 2 kg for our budget product we also have a complete fleet of 5 drones that will suit any aerial job you can imagine with larger drones that will accomodate Professional digital SLR cameras up to 80mp and cinema cameras with a host of lenses to suit and a professional and experienced team we can accomodate any aerial job big or small.
It is amazing how the methods of capturing aerial imagery have changed so drastically in less than a decade. Our RnD Manager Shea Brown entered the industry in Canada when fully manual remote control helicopters were the only means of lifting a camera system for low altitude aerial photography. Since then the capabilities of aerial lifting platforms (drones) have improved as fast as the computers they use to fly. Drones now have automation, redundancy and far more accuracy, making them a much more usable and safe tool.

This video is a compilation of some filming that we recently did of Surfers Paradise on the Beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland Australia. The video includes Q1, Hilton Hotel, and the magnificent Soul development Shot just on sunset and last light it makes for a spectacular footage. What a beautiful place.
